The six-week SNLE study timetable
Roughly 55 study hours in total. Working a run of nights? Move the block, not the week — the checkpoint is what protects the sequence.
Week 1
Diagnose + fundamentals
8–9 hours
Sit a timed diagnostic mock cold. Then rebuild fundamentals: vital-sign interpretation, asepsis, fluid and electrolytes, documentation and pain assessment. Target: 60% on the week-1 checkpoint.
Week 2
Medical-surgical core
10–12 hours
Cardiac, respiratory and renal. ACS pathways, heart failure signs, COPD versus asthma management, chest drains, AKI and potassium emergencies. Highest-yield week of the plan — the biggest SNLE domain.
Week 3
Pharmacology & calculations
9–10 hours
High-alert drugs, insulin and heparin protocols, antibiotic classes, IV rates and paediatric dosing. Drill 40 calculation questions until your error rate is under 5%.
Week 4
Maternal, newborn & paediatrics
9–10 hours
Labour stages, foetal monitoring, postpartum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia; then milestones, immunisation schedules, dehydration grading and febrile seizures. Checkpoint mock: 70%.
Week 5
Mental health, community & professional practice
7–8 hours
Therapeutic communication, suicide risk, psychotropic side effects, isolation precautions, delegation, consent and Saudi scope of practice. Short domain, easy marks — do not skip it.
Week 6
Full rehearsal
10 hours
Two 150-question timed mocks at the same time of day as your booked slot, plus a full pass through the error log. Book the exam when you clear 75% twice.
SNLE self study — FAQs
- Can I pass the SNLE by self study alone?
- Yes — most of our candidates do. Self study works when three things are in place: a fixed weekly sequence, question practice after every chapter, and timed full-length mocks in the last fortnight. It fails when people only read.
- How many hours a day should I study for the SNLE?
- Ninety minutes a day for six weeks is the sweet spot for a working nurse — roughly 55 total hours. Two hours a day compresses it to four weeks; anything under an hour usually needs eight weeks to reach the same score.
- What should I study first for the SNLE?
- Whatever your diagnostic mock exposes. If you have no data yet, start with medical-surgical nursing and pharmacology — together they account for close to half the paper.
- How do I know I am ready to book the exam?
- Two consecutive full-length timed mocks above 75% with no single domain below 65%, sat at the same time of day as your Prometric appointment.
